From Zero to 1.5 Million Requests: How PromptLayer Powered Meticulate’s Viral Launch

This case study explores how Meticulate uses PromptLayer to build, manage, and continuously improve its LLM-powered workflows with clearer visibility, stronger control, and a faster path from prompt iteration to deployment.

Meticulate is a cutting-edge, YC-backed AI startup that provides finance professionals with easy access to world-class research. By leveraging large language model (LLM) pipelines, Meticulate automates time-consuming and costly business research tasks, such as building competitive landscapes, populating market maps, and profiling companies.

Challenge:

To generate a single competitive landscape, Meticulate’s pipeline kicks off 1000+ LLM calls, with 10–15 sequential stages that fan out to analyze each discovered competitor. The Meticulate team needed a way to quickly build this complex pipeline and easily debug issues to iterate towards a working MVP for YC Demo Day.

Solution:

Meticulate turned to PromptLayer early on for agent observability. By logging all their LLM requests to PromptLayer, tagged by function and model, the team could filter to relevant calls, use full-text search to jump to failing requests, and iterate using the PromptLayer playground. This enabled rapid debugging of their agent-based pipeline.

When Meticulate launched on Hacker News and went viral, PromptLayer allowed them to scale seamlessly. Despite going from a few thousand requests to 1.5 million, PromptLayer helped the team get insight into their 100x traffic spike without missing a beat.

Results:

With PromptLayer, Meticulate was able to:

  • Launch their MVP on Hacker News and scale to handle a viral traffic spike of 1.5 million requests in 24 hours
  • Save countless engineering hours by debugging complex agent-based workflows in PromptLayer
  • Rapidly iterate to build a working MVP thanks to the tighter feedback loop enabled by PromptLayer’s observability

By providing a foundation of observability and debuggability, PromptLayer has been a critical part of Meticulate’s journey from idea to viral launch and beyond. PromptLayer continues to play an integral role as they develop their product and grow their business.

PromptLayer is the most popular platform for prompt engineering, management, and evaluation. Teams use PromptLayer to build AI applications with domain knowledge.
